Speech-Language Pathology
Communication and swallowing are fundamental to how we experience life. At Dr. SANKAR’S ENT , our Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) are dedicated to helping patients of all ages overcome challenges that affect their ability to speak, listen, eat, and think clearly.
Our clinical approach is built around “The Big Nine”—the fundamental areas of practice defined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Whether recovering from a stroke, managing a developmental delay, or adapting to a neurological condition, our team provides expert care across these essential domains.
Our Specialized Areas of Care
We provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment in the following nine areas:
- Speech Sound Production Focusing on how we say sounds and put them together into words. This includes treating articulation disorders, phonological disorders, and motor speech issues like apraxia or dysarthria.
- Fluency Addressing the flow of speech. We work with individuals who experience stuttering or cluttering to develop strategies for smoother, more effortless communication.
- Language Supporting both expressive language (how we share thoughts) and receptive language (how we understand others). This includes literacy skills, social communication, and language processing.
- Voice and Resonance Treating disorders related to vocal quality, pitch, and loudness. We help patients with vocal fold nodules, Parkinson’s-related voice changes, or resonance issues like hypernasality.
- Feeding and Swallowing (Dysphagia) Ensuring safety and nutrition. We help children with sensory feeding aversions and adults recovering from illness who have difficulty chewing or swallowing safely.
- Cognitive-Communication Focusing on the “thinking” side of communication. We provide rehabilitation for memory, attention, problem-solving, and executive functioning, often following a brain injury or concussion.
- Social Aspects of Communication Helping patients navigate social rules and “pragmatics.” This includes understanding non-verbal cues, maintaining conversation, and adapting speech to different social settings.
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Providing tools for those who cannot rely on verbal speech. We specialize in everything from simple picture boards to high-tech eye-gaze and speech-generating devices.
- Aural Rehabilitation Supporting communication for individuals with hearing loss. We focus on listening skills and speechreading to help patients make the most of hearing aids or cochlear implants.
